Been awhile since I wrote. Lots of things going on and its never ending. I am finishing my last class for my Bachelor's degree. I also converted three pairs of jeans to maternity. I made lots of gifts for Christmas and need to develop the pictures. I have also been having a hard time with the boys-they break EVERYTHING! Nothing is safe, and I have cried many times. Also suffered from preterm labor numerous times and see my doc twice a month, which is too much for me. But the baby is healthy so far and has all its parts. Not sure what it is but I am prepared.
We did have an early valentine's day party with my sister who went back to Tennessee to wait for her hubby to be undeployed(is that a word?). We are excited to have him in the states safe and sound. We had pink slushy punch, scones, chocolate cake, strawberry tarts, chicken sandwiches with an awesome italian spread, salad, and lots of fun! Sometimes it warms the heart just to be around family. Kim is also trying her hand at photography and it looks awesome!
  Italian spread(wonderful for cucumber sandwiches)
     1 pkg cream cheese
      2 Tablespoons of sour cream
1 pkg of dry italian dressing
Mix together and refrig til time to serve. I was born in October, the leaves change colors, and we get to trick-or-treat! Many things are changing and the kids are growing like weeds. I have school to finish and my daughter turns 7! in November. I have to remember to focus on my family and not the competition of others. God made me special for my family of soon to be 6. I have to learn to let others nasty comments to roll off my back. I usually am an understanding person, but I am going to be selfish the rest of this year and next. This is my life and I am living it for Christ, not you.

I have always seemed to make the wrong friends and I pay for it in the end. But this year I will not go beyond the polite boundry. I do not make decisions based on what others around me say whether its "you did this on purpose", "you are too fat, lose weight", "everyone judges you on how your house looks", "it should be me, not you" , etc....There has been so many bad and depressing comments this last couple months. But instead of conforming to their way of thinking, I chose God's. He has a plan for me and my family. I will do His will and ignore these people's comments and sometimes them. God has not made these people and their meaness, they have created it within themselves. Hopefully, they will see that I have moved past it.

I wish you all a Happy Happy Halloween and stay safe! I had a friend ask me if I could turn this quilt into a raggy. I had conflicted feeling because most of it was handmade and very old. I wanted to do it justice. Well, health issues got in the way and my mom completed the assignment I was given.
Before:

Isn't it Gorgeous?! My mom worked very hard and it took many trips to the local quilt shop County Dumplings in Cimarron, KS(located in the old hotel). There was many washings involved, in over 50 years this was the first time is was washed. Colors leaked and carefully ripping was part of the process. My mom has sewn every since she was little. She made her clothes, her doll clothes, and now hand or machine sewn quilts. Only in person does justice to her beautiful work. Here is the after:

Unfortunately I do not have a camera, but I used my husband's blackberry to take the pictures. As you can see, she took the blocks apart and up them in this beautiful pattern with a flower print for accent. She used the green and yellow on the borders to bring out both the flower blocks and printed pattern. I was in love! Aren't you? I would love to keep it, I do all the quilts I make but the lady's grandmother will cherish it more since it is over 50 years old and so much of there family history is involved. Thanks! Gearing up for my next accounting class! I did this in the mean time. My youngest son, Kooper, had sooo many recieving blankets that I cut them up and put them together to make this!! It was not an easy feat! The blanket was so thick I had to resew the seams three or four times. When I was cutting his blankets up he was asking/telling me, "my blankey?!" The wreath project gave the idea that children could do this on there own. I used 1/2 yard fabric, one styrofoam circle, one sharpened pencil, tacky glue, and ribbon. Be sure to buy the tacky craft glue because Elmer's glue just doesn't cut it. Make sure you cut the fabric into 2inch squares.
I put some of the tacky glue in a small dish. Twist a square of fabric around the sharpened pencil, dip into glue, and push into styrofoam. Pull the pencil carefully out, fabric might crawl. Contine to fill the circle until no gaps can be found. It took me 3 1/2 hours to complete a small circle. I found the project somewhat difficult because of the hard styrofoam and the fabric coming out. I tried to get my kids involved but it was too hard for them to do. They ended up glueing fabric to construction paper, while I finished the circle.
Despite my hardships, I really love the wreath. So here is my Valentine Wreath.

Valentine Cookie Pizza

Happy Valentine's Day!

I love crafts! and with all the projects to create for valentine's day I am at a loss where to start. For those who have cable! I have finished my military quilt and right on time for deployment. But unfortunately, I did not make it to the Post Office on Saturday to mail this special package. I love this quilt, it reminds me of Kansas and the revoluntionary war.

The picture does not do it justice. We are having chicken and pasta for supper with hard bread and italian dipping oil! What a treat!
Isn't life rough? My husband and I had gone through rough times when we were growing up such as divorce, bad friends, etc. It got even worse when we got married in 2005. Poor jobs made us even poorer and just last year a man totaled our pickup by trying to pass in an intersection. He got away with it, of course we still owe on the truck. Lost good jobs, lost livestock, been cheated. When does it stop and what do you do? I am just at a loss..so last night things just got to be too much and here is the product.

Sometimes I scream "Why me?!"
When I should ask why not me?
Sometimes I scream "I hate my life!"
When I should ask "What is there to hate?"
Sometimes I scream "I don't like you!"
When I can't live without you
Sometimes I feel I can't do this
I can't stand anymore
I just don't want to be
YOU died and rose again
Bring me from the ashes
And make me new
Because my life is yours
And YOU want me to be
The perfect you
by Hannah Rasmussen

I have to remind myself again that God only gives you what you can handle. Our God is not vengeful, hateful, or wants you to go through rough times. He wants you to work through these trial and have more faith! That is what I am lacking, more faith. I seem to fall soo many times in them icky, mud puddles to have God reach in, make me clean, and put me back on my feet. Our God is an awesome God! Have faith and pray, you will get through this.
So this week I am working on my faith and love (I do not have a very loving nature)! I have a doctor appointment on Wednesday and hopeful he can help me with new meds. It has been a very rough time for me both mentally and physically. So, pray for me and I will pray for you! If you have a prayer request leave it above and I will get right on it!

Hannah

Brownie Alpine Biscotti

1 pkg Fudge brownie mix
3/4 cup ground almonds
1/2 cup flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1egg + 3 egg whites
1 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

In bowl, combine mix, almonds, flour and baking powder. Created by web hosting geeks - Gorgeous Beaches of Goa. It took me three hours yesterday to edit the HTML codes to get a three column blog and then one hour to get the template to work. But what a payoff?! Feeding the fish is just the icing on the cake!

I am the queen of Biscotti, just ask my family. I'm pretty good when I can come up any recipe I can when it comes to my favorite cookie. As I was reading my facebook today, one of my favorite quilters Pat Sloan, posted a pistachio biscotti she was going to try. It's a good cookie to start with by why not eat out of the box? I have too many favorites! Here is my recipe book!

Most of these are pre-printed favorite recipes, some are tweaked, and a few are my own concoction! I love to cook when my health allows it.

Biscotti Recipes:

Cranberry-Orange

Dried Cherry

Brownie

Blueberry White Morsel

Pistachio

These are the ones I have made for years and I consider the best!

Cranberry-Orange Biscotti Recipe

2 tablespoons butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
4 egg whites
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup dried cranberries
1-2 tablespoons finely grated orange peel (depends on how strong you want the orange taste)

In small mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar for 2 minutes or until crumbly. Beat in egg whites. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl; gradually add to sugar mixture. Stir in cranberries and orange peel.
Press into an 8-in square baking dish coated with non-stick cooking spray. Bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes. Remove from pan and place on cutting board; cut biscotti in half with serrated knife. Cut each half into 1/2 in slices.
Place slices cut side down on backing sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes, turning only once. Remove from oven to wire rack to cool. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar or drizzle with melted white chocolate.
(requested by Janice)

I always enjoy my biscotti with a hot cup of coffee or green tea! My NEW favorite is Turtle Pecan! If anyone is interested in any of the listed biscotti leave a comment and I will be sure to pass it along. Yes, I am avoiding my accounting homework. This week it's bonds and leases.
For Christmas this year, I tried to make all the presents. The cost of STUFF is so expensive it pays to make..in some ways. I had alot of fun and made these at the same time. I REALLY love the birdhouse.

I have never followed the directions and I made my own version. Here is what it was supposed to look like:

Of course I used all my scraps and I didn't turn out like the picture. I could not figure out what the ovals are in the bottom right corner until I read the directions! Imagine that. I will give you a hint, they crawl...still can't figure it out. They are supposed to lady bugs. No, I didn't see it either. I made mine into the robin's eggs, made sense to me. This being my second wall hanging, I made "poof" in my most of my flowers, butterflies, and birdhouse. I loved the look and feel.

I have two raggies in transit right now. Dalen, my almost 3 year old, loves John Deer Tractors. So I bought a piece of clearence fabric with tractors on it and I am tearing apart shirts. Kooper(Hoss), my almost 2 year old, is getting Buzz Lightyear fleece blanket. All brought together with my old red flannel sheets! You about have to buy a quilt shop to buy good, cheap fabric nowdays!

Well, that's all. Just wanted to show off my latest projects.
Hannah

Keepsake Treat! for all those great grandmothers!

Grandchildren Keepsakes Quilt

My sister-in-law and I, on cold November day, brought all the six grandbabies together and pressed little hands and little feet to white fabric. I made absolutely NO resolutions since I won't stick to them anyway!

Hannah

Hand Embroidery

Hand Embroidery

I have been embroidering since 19 years old. I love the look! Isn't this beautiful? I made it for a very close friend of mine in a gift that included: coffee, tea, biscotti, and chocolate. I have always found embroidering soothing. It calms me and makes me concentrate on something other than my problems.

I have been having a hard time with curves, but I am getting there. I only know the basics, that is all that I was taught. I want to incorporate my embroidery in my quilts. I have set out an idea, but homework and children come first. I am currently taking Intermediate Accounting II, so far so good. Ashford has been the best online college! The classes are very structured and fun! I remember sitting in the huge hall of 200+ students at the community college. This is sooo much nicer.

I have just recently acquired a Malware Defense virus and trojan on my computer and have yet to defeat it! I love the site Virus Guru, very helpful, but a person really needs to know the computer. I have deleted some of the files that were stuck in the computer insides but it is still not fully captured. I will prevail!...well with chocolate, hot green tea, and the restore disc for my computer, I will.

Anyways, back to the fabulous fun of hand embroidery! I have too many people tell me, "my mom used to do that or my grandmother did before she passed" and these are older people than my young years of 26. I am finishing up my great-grandmother's pillow cases that she had started (and the edges are crocheted!). I get depressed and think why do not more people do this? Because now the younger generations are too dependant on electronics or it's just plain laziness. Well let me tell you, it does not take very much energy to stitch a pre-printed pattern on a dish towel. I am trying to rally the youngsters and help carry the art of embroidery and quilting to the next generations! Here is my latest find: Needle'n Thread for free patterns to start. It is not complicated to iron on the pattern. Just make sure something is under towel or fabric such as a clean paper bag. Then before pressing, please check to be sure the pattern is straight...not cockeyed..yes I did that! I still turned out okay. Before stitching: always have clean hands, it will transfer to your fabric!

I am still so inexperianced but you have to have the drive and will! God gave me a talent and I will try to pass it down. I did want to be a teacher in school that taught sewing and cooking, but plans changed and so did the economy. So here I sit with a degree in accounting going for my Bachelor's..for what? Who knows! I am following the trail of quilt scraps and hopefully I will end up where God wants me to be.

Any questions and comments are soo welcome and remember to follow the law, don't steal, and if you have a problem with someone it is best to approach them and work it out...Yes, there is a story behind it and if it gets bigger I will write a book about how much the big guy spits on the little guy.

Hannah (I am NOW going to do my homework!)

Hanging Quilts and Applique

Not your style? Too hard? Too much cutting? I have never tried applique before and almost completed my first hanging applique! This is the picture in the book (Weekend Quilt Projects, pg.132) because I am a picture person! Now, isn't that perfect for the season!

The quilt was labeled as Folk-Art Yuletide wall hanging Difficult. I consider myself moderately experienced, so how hard could it be? Let me tell you! I was off an inch here, too much here, this goes where?, how confusing. Then my mother tells me, "Hannah, they give a little bit to work with." NOW that makes sense. I wish they would warn a fellow quiltswoman. So away I sew, all these tiny little squares and rectangles, until I get to the applique. What is applique and why do I care? It is applying a smaller separte piece of material to larger piece by sewing or using fusing web.

I put a little spin on my applique because I NEVER follow directions. They never make sense. So here is my sewn hanging quilt! (no it is not done)

Not too bad! I had to hand sew all of the windows, moose, snowman and accesories, and the mittens. I used embroidery thread too, makes a statement. I did not turn under any of my applique pieces. I gave them a frayed or raggy edge. It turned out really well and I didn't have to spend hours ironing on fusing web. Applique gives a quilt depth and character! Something to grab the person's attention. I felt the most important part of this process was to have fun and not to worry about mistakes. Can you see mine? I thought not! I think the hardest part of all was the piecing. I have enjoyed it and I will finish it after I am finished with my Christmas gifts. And the price of batting?! I couldn't believe it, $8.46. Just how are we supposed to afford anything these days. All the more reason to give from the heart!

Check out http://www.rasmussenraggies.com/ for Christmas gifts. Turn those football shirts or old baby clothes into the keepsake quilt! Call or email for consultation!

Blank Canvas

Hello all! I am sitting here trying to warm up with my Hot Caramel Apple Cider. It has been so cold and rainy today, the roads are very slippery...I have been dabbling in photography. I have taken a few good pictures, at least I like them and they are orginial. I thought to go outside and take some pictures. I need a good photo to put on my photo cards for my business. I have the picture in my mind but unfortunately today was NOT the day. I really wanted a picture of one of my quilts draped over the railing of a wrap around country home. Flowers and sunshine...well that wasn't in the mix. So I chose to go a little more country with fence line and tall grass...too cold. So, I am not sure what the plan is, but it will come to me.

One website that I have found is most enlighting is http://digital-photography-school.com/. It provides tutorials, advice, and critism for those more experienced photographers. The pictures some of these people take are just beautiful.

<img $r="true" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_xS0Zdh-Xp9I/StQKafnaXSI/AAAAAAAAAA0/BPlh7GMWlEA/s320/Picture+387.jpg" />

So I tried many different pics...this one is one of my favs.....I know its definitely a beginner photo but I really liked the color with the old wood. I have done portraits, but I love to be outside and so do my kids. I don't like to work with artificial light. Probably because it never seems to work when I do. Of course, I do not have the equipment. I rely on my plain, cheap digital camera. But, I would love to have a professional one...

One of the things I enjoy most with quilting is the color! The color can be vibrant or muted, plain or busy. The options are endless. I like to use a few busy, few plain, and some bold fabrics. Character is what we are trying to achieve. How do you express yourself? Through bold, busy, or plain? Which fabrics represent you? The fabric that I use to express myself is usually the earthy tones with a busy and plain fabric. One of my favorite fabric designers is Hoffman Californa. Most of those prints represent my taste and style. I love his lastest collection of Treasures of the East..

<img $r="true" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_xS0Zdh-Xp9I/StQMgPbnviI/AAAAAAAAAA8/cQjDHHC7Q7A/s320/hoffman.jpg" />

Every artist has there own style. What do you picture on your blank canvas? I seem to see stars this week. I have deceided to work on a raggy with stars. It is in the beginnings. I am excited to approach this challenge. I had worked on tracing around objects with my machine and I did a pretty good job, this quilt will test my skills. It is not sew like the original pattern of a raggy, it is more complicated.

I have a few orders to work with the next two months and I will post pictures. Tomorrow's blog will show off some of the work I have done. I love the holiday ones the most! They are great for presents...

Rasmussen Raggies' beginnings!

Hi! My name is Hannah and this is my first blog! My blog is going to basically my life and business. I am in my third year of school at Ashford University. I am studying to get my BA in Accounting. I will graduate in August of 2010. This school is so great and very accomidating. I have such a great time with the classes. I have learned alot.

I have a husband, Keenan and three children; Lizzy, Dalen, and Kooper. I have my hands full, but I needed a creative outlet and to make money since I am a stay at home mom. Very hard job, let me tell you!

My business is Rasmussen Raggies. I love to sew, my mother taught me all I know. I had tried to branch out and landed on my feet with raggy quilts. These quilts are my favorite quilt. They get better with each wash. Not many things you can say that about!

I have made many quilts for myself as well as other people. I can use almost anything. My favorite is using old shirts or dresses.
